The transition from “Hannah Montana” to Miley Cyrus at the top of the album sales chart has been completed.
Cyrus’ “Breakout” (Hollywood) not only debuted at No. 1, its first-week sales surpassed the tallies registered by the two “Hannah Montana” soundtracks, which also debuted at No. 1. The queen of tweens’ “Breakout” sold 371,000 copies in the week ended Sunday, according to Nielsen Soundscan data.
That first-week number bested the 326,000 of “Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus” last summer and the 261,000 for the first “Hannah Montana” in late 2006. The first one has sold 3.6 million copies; volume two has moved 3.1 million.
The “Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert” pic grossed $65 million during its theatrical release, which started in February.
At No. 2, Sugarland’s deluxe version of “Love on the Inside” (Mercury Nashville) sold 314,000 copies, registering the biggest sales week of the year for a country act. The duo’s 2006 release, “Enjoy the Ride,” peaked at No. 4 on sales of 211,000.
Release is a rare example of a deluxe edition preceding the release of a standard edition. Album with five fewer tracks went on sale Tuesday.
The “Mamma Mia!” soundtrack nearly doubled its sales for a second week in a row, moving 168,000 copies and staying put at No. 3.

(Reuters) – Newly crowned “American Idol” David Cook, already topping the iTunes music download charts, said on Friday he hopes to put out a rock album that will “make the hair on your neck stand up.”

Cook, 25, a Missouri guitarist who was tending bar before auditioning for the most watched show on U.S. television, also said his best musical advice came from Frank Sinatra.

Cook won the seventh season of the singing competition and a recording contract on Wednesday, beating 17-year-old crooner David Archuleta by a 12 million-vote margin in the record 97.5 million votes cast by viewers by telephone and text message.

Cook’s first single “The Time of My Life” and the three songs he sang in this week’s “American Idol” finale were the top four downloads on Apple Inc’s iTunes music store on Friday.

Cook said he would not be putting out an album of standards even though he won fans on the show, which is broadcast on the Fox network, a unit of News Corp, with alternative versions of pop classics such as “Billie Jean” and Lionel Richie’s “Hello.”

“I think it’s going to be a mixture of my writing and hopefully writing with other people. I just want to come out of the gate with a solid record,” he told reporters in a telephone conference call.

(Reuters) – Brazilian Gisele Bundchen is the world’s top supermodel with estimated earnings of $35 million during the past year, according to new ranking released on Wednesday.

She more than doubled the estimated $14 million earned by Heidi Klum, who came in at No. 2 on the list by Forbes.com, followed by Kate Moss with $7.5 million, Adriana Lima with $7 million and Doutzen Kroes with $6 million.

Forbes.com said that although Bundchen finished her lucrative Victoria’s Secret contract last year, she continues to juggle 20 other modeling jobs.

“The 27-year-old continues to bag new contracts, noticeably with Pantene and a cosmetics giant yet to be named. Her face graces ads for Disney, Nivea, Vogue eyewear and Aquascutum, the U.K.-based luxury line,” Forbes.com said.

“Her line of Grendene sandals, Ipanema by Gisele, banks her about $6 million a year. And her romance with New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady keeps her in the tabloids,” it added.

The web site said that while Klum is still a Victoria’s Secret model, the mother of three is “more of a media and retail mogul” these days with her U.S. “Project Runway” and “Germany’s Next Top Model” hosting duties and lines of jewelry, jeans and skincare.
